A celebration of plastic
Lang Leve Plastic was founded in 2019 by Nikki Hes, who was astounded by the vast amount of valuable plastic that ends up in the environment. He aims to use this high-quality material to create high-quality products that never have to be thrown away, but instead, are designed to be reused, repaired, and recycled. “Lang Leve Plastic” in English means “Long Live Plastic,” as a celebration of plastic and to create products with a long lifespan.
How it all started
Nikki graduated from the Interactive Media Design program at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 2016. After graduation, he worked as an interaction designer at a design studio for three years. On his regular day off, Wednesdays, he began researching plastic recycling. His interest rapidly grew, especially when he discovered the Precious Plastic community, who have designed open-source plastic recycling machines that make plastic recycling much more accessible. With the help of local experts, he created the first modular chair. Now, Nikki works full-time on plastic recycling, designing and producing his own furniture, facilitating educational programs, and co-founding the Plastic Lab with Ecodam.
